COVID-19 numbers in the Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) have jumped again, this time with 27 cases recorded in the 24 hours to 8 pm yesterday.
This brings the total cases in SNSWLHD to 223 since the start of the current outbreak in June and comes on a day when NSW recorded 813 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and 10 deaths. Four people were not vaccinated, five had received one dose, and one of the people who died had been fully vaccinated.
Of the 27 new cases in southern NSW:
- 11 were in the Queanbeyan-Palerang region. Seven linked to known cases.
- Seven were in Goulburn Mulwaree region, with three linked to known cases.
- One was in the Eurobodalla region (Moruya) and was linked to a known case.
- Eight were in the Snowy Monaro region (all in Jindabyne). Seven linked to known cases.
SNSWLHD has been notified of numerous new venues of concern associated with COVID-19 cases. The venues are listed here.
Anyone who visited one of these venues at the times listed is a casual contact and must immediately get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.
Staff will be contacted separately by SNSWLHD’s Public Health Unit regarding their testing and isolation requirements.
Meanwhile, Bega Valley Shire Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick is encouraging the shire community to get tested for COVID-19 with even the mildest of symptoms after fragments of the COVID-19 virus were detected at the Bermagui sewage treatment plant.
The sample was taken on Wednesday 29 September and the morning of Thursday 30 September.
Cr Fitzpatrick said sewage testing was an important tool in providing an early warning of any undetected infections in an area.
“If you live in Bermagui or the surrounding areas including Wallaga Lake, Fairhaven and Akolele, or in fact anywhere in the shire, and you have the slightest hint of cold-like symptoms, you need to get tested,” Cr Fitzpatrick said.
“We encourage people across the shire to get vaccinated as NSW moves through the stages of re-opening and potentially more people choose to travel to the area.
“We have a busy visitor season ahead of us and getting vaccinated helps protect us, our families and people who will be enjoying all the wonderful things we have to offer.”

Council is sending samples from the sewage treatment plants in Eden, Bermagui, Merimbula and Bega, twice weekly to NSW Health for testing.
This is the second detection at the Bermagui sewage treatment plant, which serves about 1800 people.

There were three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District reported in NSW Health’s numbers today, but none of them were in Hilltops.
Two cases are residents of the Edward River Local Government Area. They are both close contacts of a previously reported case and are in isolation.
One case is a resident of the Albury LGA and acquired the infection outside of the District, and is currently isolating outside the District.
