With a long weekend ahead, there’s no time like the present to get out and explore the region.

Food and wine lovers should check out the Creative Juices Festival at Contentious Character in Wamboin, or Truffle Infused Weekends at Mount Majura Vineyard.

Near the South Coast or heading there? Merimbula WinterSun Festival will be running all weekend, as will the South Coast Open tennis tournament. Also, A Rational Fear’s ‘I Feel Fine!’ tour will make it to Bega.

Binalong Markets will delight with a huge range of local produce and wares, or you can try your hand at Open Mic Night at the Goulburn Club.

If you’re a car lover, the annual Wombat Swapmeet is also on this weekend.

Creative Juices Festival at Contentious Character

Get your juices flowing with an exciting long weekend of creative arts with beautiful local food and wines. The festival features performances from Australian Dance Party, Somebody’s Aunt and Dianna Nixon, plus a kids’ workshop from Kulture Break, and a Sparkling Perfect long-table lunch with The Street Theatre.

Crisp days, golden skies, beautiful sunrises and sunsets all celebrate the beauty of winter in Merimbula.

Get together with friends and family during the three days of the WinterSun Festival and enjoy an evening celebration of local foodies, a classic movie with mulled wine, a gala of local musical talent, a salty swim on Saturday morning, barefoot bowls and a race day.

With local flair and flavour taking centre stage, WinterSun Festival shines a light on everything that’s golden about Merimbula in winter.

South Coast Open

When: Friday, 11 June, to Sunday, 13 June
Where: Batemans Bay Tennis Club
Cost: Free for spectators.

The Batemans Bay Open is a silver-rated ATM Tennis Tournament with $10,000 in prize money up for grabs. This is the southeast region’s most prestigious tennis event.

Entry is free for spectators, with breakfast, a barbecue and an all-day canteen available.

Wombat Swapmeet

When: Saturday, 12 June, and Sunday, 13 June, from 7:00 am to 5: 00 pm
Where: Wombat Hotel, Rose Street, Wombat
Cost: Free – see more info here and here.

Wombat Swapmeet is held annually on the June long weekend and is run by the Wombat Hotel Social Group. All money raised goes to local community projects and charities.

The event’s Show ‘N’ Shine will be held on Saturday, 12 June, from 10:00 am.

The canteen will be open both days and there are coffee carts onsite.

Truffle Infused Weekends

When: Saturday, 12 June, to Sunday, 13 June, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (last entry recommended at 3:30 pm)
Where: 88 Lime Kiln Road, Majura, ACT
Cost: $40 – book online.

Come in to the cellar door at Mount Majura Vineyard to taste a flight of wines matched with truffle brie, which combines deliciously rich triple-cream brie-style cheese with truffles from The Truffle Farm.

$10 from each tasting will go to Raw Potential Canberra, an organisation that aims to empower disadvantaged youth.

Open Mic Night at the Goulburn Club

When: Friday, 11 June, from 5:30 pm to 11:00 pm
Where: 19 Market Street, Goulburn
Cost: Free.

At the Goulburn Club‘s Open Mic Night, any performer can get on stage.

Everyone is welcome to come along to listen or present an act. Musicians, singer-songwriters, poets, comedians or any other performer is encouraged to join in and show off their talent. Soloists and groups regularly appear and the variety is always entertaining.

Each act is given 10 to 15 minutes to perform, depending on the number of acts on the night. Simply turn up and put your name on the whiteboard to secure a spot.

Binalong Community Markets

Binalong is a beautiful town and its community markets are held on every second Sunday of the month.

It is located at Cafe on Queen with great stalls and something for everyone.

A Rational Fear’s ‘I Feel Fine’ show is a night of laughing in the face of the scariest things facing the planet: extreme weather, rising sea levels and global warming.
