Digital filmmaking workshops for young filmmakers, conducted by Far South Films in Bega and Moruya in November, have been hailed as a success.
The workshops gave young people an opportunity for hands-on, intensive learning under the instruction of experienced filmmakers Rima Bos in Moruya, and Lis Shelley and Jared Auer in Bega.
Students used new technologies and devices, and learned the basics of storytelling and screenwriting; pre-production and planning; composition and shooting; animation; editing techniques; and strategies for creating short films.
The workshops were the perfect place for students to get a feel of what it takes to create short films that can be entered into film festivals.
“Everyone starts somewhere and short films are a great way to learn the basics, whether you’re doing a film for your family, a project for school, or want to get into a tertiary level film school,” said Ms Shelley.
Far South Film has a strong commitment to supporting young people to learn all aspects of filmmaking. The association is planning to run more open, professional and youth workshops in the region in the lead up to its Far South Film Festival in August 2021.
“Far South Film’s workshops give our regional kids a level of confidence and experience they might otherwise have to travel to the city to get,” said Ms Shelley.
The workshops are supported by Create NSW’s Country Arts Support Program, administered by Regional Arts NSW and South East Arts on behalf of the NSW Government.
