An investigation is underway following three public shootings in and around Batemans Bay over the last 24 hours.
South Coast Police District Commander, Superintendent Greg Moore say this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.
“We have had three separate incidents in the space of a few hours where firearms have been held or discharged,” Superintendent Moore says.
At about 11 pm yesterday (December 1), shots were allegedly fired into a home on View Street, Batehaven.
Police believe a man was at home at the time of the alleged shooting, and a vehicle was heard to be leaving the scene shortly after the shots were allegedly fired.
Then at about 1 am today (December 2), shots were allegedly fired into a home on the Kings Highway, Nelligen. An hour later, three males were allegedly approached by three men armed with firearms on the Princes Highway just south of Batemans Bay.
An altercation allegedly ensued, and a man was hit in the head with the back of a firearm. The three men attended Batemans Bay Hospital before reporting the incident to police.
Police received information that prior to the alleged assault, one of the alleged offenders attended a nearby service station and demanded other customers leave, before leaving the store without further incident.
“This is a real concern for police, and there lies a real possibility that innocent people can suffer significant harm from this type of reckless and dangerous act,” Superintendent Moore says.
“This kind of behaviour won’t be tolerated, and anyone who chooses to engage in these reckless acts will face the full brunt of the law.”
“Rest assured our officers are working hard and following several lines of inquiry to resolve this matter.”
Strike Force Wollumbin has since been established by officers attached to South Coast Police District to investigate the circumstances surrounding the three incidents.
Investigators are calling for anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious around the time of any of the incidents to contact police, either via Batemans Bay Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information is treated in strict confidence.
