A truck driver has been charged following a crash that killed one person and left several others hospitalised.
A NSW Police spokesperson said that about 7 pm on Friday (20 March), emergency services were called to the Hume Highway at Marulan following reports of a crash.
At the scene, police say officers attached to the Hume Police District found a B-double truck, a minivan and a ute had collided.
A passenger in the minivan — a 58-year-old woman — was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics. She died at the scene.
A second passenger in the minivan was flown to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition.
The 36-year-old female driver of the minivan was flown to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.
A third passenger in the minivan, a 32-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries.
The ute driver — a 28-year-old man — and the 31-year-old male driver of the truck were both taken to Goulburn Base Hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established in the aftermath of the incident, with the Crash Investigation Unit launching an investigation.
The incident’s notice on LiveTraffic NSW states the incident occurred on the highway, just past Jerrara Road, with traffic flow affected in both directions for much of the evening.
“Contraflow traffic conditions are in place to allow motorists to pass in both directions,” an alert from the time says.
LiveTraffic NSW lists the road as being reopened at 2 am on Saturday (21 March).
The police spokesperson said that following their inquiries, officers arrested the truck driver and took him to Goulburn Police Station.
He has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving, negligent driving (occasioning death), and two counts of causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a motor vehicle.
He was granted conditional bail, and is scheduled to appear in Goulburn Local Court on 10 April.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
