A woman has died after she crashed into a tree in south-west NSW.

A NSW Police spokesperson said that emergency services were called to Burley Griffin Way at Combaning (a rural community about 13 kilometres east of Temora), following reports of a crash at about 2:30 pm on Monday (16 March).

Officers from Riverina Police District were called to the scene, where they found a car had collided with a tree.

The driver of the car, a 54-year-old woman, died at the scene.

According to an alert put out late on Monday, Live Traffic NSW, motorists are asked to reduce their speed and exercise caution while driving in the area.

Traffic has been affected in both directions.

“Alternating (stop/slow) traffic conditions are in place to allow motorists to pass in one direction at a time,” the alert advises.

A crime scene has been established at the scene of the crash, and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident has been launched.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

As their inquiries continue, anyone with information including dash cam footage, is urged to contact Temora Police Station by calling 02 6973 2860 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
