More than 1300 cyclists from across Australia are expected to take to the Snowy Mountains roads this Saturday (1 April) for the second annual Snowy Classic Cycling Gran Fondo.
A true European-style cycling experience on fully closed roads, the Snowy Classic is the first event to kick off the 2023 calendar for The Classics – a popular national series by Bicycling Australia.
Riders will take on one of two courses – the 170km Maxi Classic or the 110km Challenge Classic – extending from Jindabyne to Hilltop, Rocky Plain, Berridale, Dalgety, Beloka and Perisher Valley.
Both routes showcase some of the nation’s best rural and alpine cycling and take in iconic Australian pastoral vistas before hitting challenging climbs such as the mighty Beloka.
There will be rolling road closures throughout the Snowy Mountains region on the event day. Locals are encouraged to stay off the roads when possible and be mindful of cyclists. Full road closure details are available online at www.snowyclassic.com.au/community.

Snowy Monaro Regional Council chief communications officer and Tourism Snowy Mountains board member Gina Woodward said: “It’s an exciting time for our region to welcome back the Snowy Classic riders and crew.
”The benefits of 1300 riders and their supporters heading to the Snowys are far-reaching for our region’s businesses. We wish all the participants a great day of riding and fun.”
Riders will depart from Kosciuszko Road, Jindabyne (opposite Banjo Paterson Park), between 8 am and 8:10 am on Saturday and pass through the finish line in the same location between 10:30 am and 5:30 pm.
Locals, whether cycling enthusiasts or not, are encouraged to join the action in decorating their front gardens, cheering on the riders, and taking in the festival atmosphere.
All are welcome to come down to the event village at Town Centre carpark, Jindabyne, between 10:30 am and 5:30 pm to cheer on the riders as they pass the finish line.
There will be something for everyone – gourmet food stalls, a beer and wine bar, live music, exhibitor stalls and more.
The Snowy Classic is supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.
Snowy Classic organisers also acknowledged the support from the Snowy Monaro Council, Tourism Snowy Mountains, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, and NSW Police.
