Police officers have seized a 4WD they believe was involved in burnouts on the Wanniassa playing fields.

Tuggeranong Police Station officers launched an investigation after a black Toyota Hilux was seen tearing up the sportsground on Tuesday, 19 May.

At 12.55 pm on Tuesday, 16 June, ACT Policing officers stopped a black Toyota Hilux on the Monaro Highway at Hume.

“[They] confirmed it was the same vehicle involved in the sports ground damage incident on 19 May,” an ACT Policing statement outlined.

“The 4WD was seized and the 18-year-old male driver from Karabar, NSW, was taken into custody.”

The investigation into the damage at Wanniassa is ongoing, and police continue to ask the community for help in relation to this and other instances of sports ground damage.

These include incidents at Greenway, Calwell, Giralang, Holt, Hawker, Wanniassa and Hall, where riders and drivers have churned up turf and, in some cases, ridden through the middle of sporting matches.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed these incidents or has dashcam footage to come forward.

Anyone who can assist police can provide their contact details to Crime Stoppers, quoting 8403780.
