A snifter of whisky may invoke images of sitting in a leather armchair in front of the fireplace, enjoying a nightcap.
Instead, pair premium Corowa Distilling Co whiskies with a four-course meal at a unique fundraising opportunity for Camp Quality.
“Whiskies have quite a distinct flavour, it will be fascinating to see how it turns out,” long-time Camp Quality fundraiser organiser Brett Norton said.
“Wet your lips, this is not like having a cheap bottle from the local store, this is a top-shelf experience.”
Canberra Southern Cross Yacht Club’s executive chef Bradley Howden curated the four-course menu to highlight and enhance the flavours of the whiskies.
And Corowa Distillery Co managing director Dean Druce will be on hand to talk people through the flavours, bringing each profile to life.
While people might hear ‘whisky’ and think ‘scotch’, Australian whisky delivers a richer experience.
“Whisky has gained huge population over recent years, and Australian whisky in particular is as good as it gets,” Brett said.
“It’s now taking the world stage … even if you’re not a whisky lover, I think you’ll find this experience rewarding.”
Also on offer at the event is a special delivery from Sydney’s Whisky and Wealth Club: A Corowa Distilling Co 220-litre barrel valued at $6900.
Brett said the barrel’s future would be up to whoever purchases it on the night.
“You can drink it if you want to, or in three, five, even 20 years, sell it for a goodly profit,” he said.
More than 220 children from Canberra to the South Coast are currently being supported by the local Camp Quality chapter and 100 per cent of proceeds from the whiskey fundraiser will help its important work continue.
“My wife and I were introduced to the plight of some of these kids 15 years ago … and we’ve found it very rewarding to see the impact Camp Quality can achieve when supporting these children,” Brett said.
“Seeing how it puts a bit of light and happiness into their days is wonderful.”
The charity recently funded a child therapist at The Canberra Hospital, helping kids through their cancer diagnosis, preparing them for treatments up in Sydney and the reality of spending long periods of time away from their home, family and friends.
The Angel’s Share – Where Whisky Meets Fine Dining fundraising night is on Tuesday, 5 May, from 5.30 pm to 9 pm at the Canberra Southern Cross Yacht Club. Tickets can be purchased here.
