Three people have been arrested in Junee and taken to Wagga Police Station over the alleged murder of a Sydney university student who police say was killed when the wrong house was targeted.

Homicide Squad detectives arrested a 16-year-old boy and two men, aged 22 and 23, in Junee on Tuesday (29 September) as part of an investigation into the shooting death of 23-year-old Marco Tapia.

Mr Tapia was killed at a home on Mount Sugarloaf Drive at Glen Alpine, in Sydney’s south-west, at about 3:40 am on Tuesday 1 September.

Police were called to the home following reports of a home invasion and found Mr Tapia suffering from a gunshot wound.

He died at the scene.

Detectives have since confirmed the wrong house was targeted.

Police allege three males entered the home and confronted Mr Tapia, with one of them allegedly armed with a pistol, before he was fatally shot.

The two men were remanded in custody to appear at Bail Division Local Court 5 on Wednesday (30 September), while the 16-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at a children’s court.

The arrests follow an investigation by State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad under Strike Force Gareno.

Two teenage boys have also previously been charged over the alleged murder and remain before the courts.

Police said the investigation began after local officers established a crime scene and commenced inquiries following the September shooting.
