UPDATE 1:00 pm: A man has died in a horror highway crash that also resulted in three people being taken to hospital and the closure of a major highway.

At about 6:15 am today (13 July), emergency services were called to the Princes Highway south of Cobargo (near Quinlans Road), following reports of a crash.

On arrival, police found that three cars and a truck had collided.

At about 12:30 pm, a NSW Police spokesperson confirmed that the male driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified.

The male truck driver was treated for a possible punctured lung. All three drivers were taken to Southeast Regional Hospital in Bega for mandatory testing.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Anyone with dashcam footage or information about the crash is asked to contact Bega Police by calling 02 6492 9999, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

In a statement, Bega Valley Shire Council warned that kerbside waste collections have been impacted by the highway closure.

A council spokesperson said the closure had blocked access to households to the north of the crash and caused delays to the service.

“Affected residents are asked to leave their bins at the kerb. Collections will be completed as soon as waste trucks are able to access the area.

“Council apologises for the inconvenience and thanks the community for its patience and understanding.”

The Princes Highway south of Cobargo remains closed in both directions, with diversions in place.
