Teenager dies, another seriously injured near Batemans Bay

A 16-year-old boy has died and a 17-year-old girl is in Canberra Hospital with serious injuries after a single-vehicle crash at Benandarahm during the early hours of Sunday morning (7 February).

The accident happened at about 2:50 am. Police officers on routine patrol on the Princes Highway about 10 km north of Batemans Bay discovered the Ford Falcon sedan crashed into a tree and on fire.

Police extinguished the fire and a female passenger was located with serious injuries inside the car.

A short time later, officers located the body of the driver, a 16-year-old boy.

The injured passenger, a 17-year-old girl, was extracted from the vehicle at about 5:00 am and airlifted to Canberra Hospital with serious injuries.

Officers from the South Coast Police District established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
