Three people were killed and four were injured, including children, when two cars collided in a horrific crash that closed the Kings Highway this week.

Earlier, NSW Police said two Hyundai hatchbacks collided head-on on the Kings Highway at Monga, a locality west of Clyde Mountain, at around 5 pm on Monday (9 March).

When providing an update on Tuesday (10 March), police said two adults and a teenage girl were killed, while one adult and three children were taken to hospital.

The two adults in the eastbound Hyundai i20, the female driver and male backseat passenger, died at the scene. A female in the front seat, who police believe is a teenage girl, also died.

These three have not yet been formally identified.

A second teenage girl was in the backseat of the same car and she was airlifted to Canberra Hospital with critical injuries.

The 31-year-old male driver of the westbound Hyundai Ioniq was airlifted to Westmead Hospital with serious injuries, while a seven-year-old child from his car was airlifted to hospital in a stable condition.

A three-year-old child from this car was taken to Canberra Hospital to be checked as a precaution.

“Officers attached to Monaro Police District established a crime scene with specialists from Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) conducting the investigation,” a police spokesperson said.

The Kings Highway remained closed to all traffic near the intersection with Tudor Valley Road, between Braidwood and Clyde Mountain, for almost 12 hours after the crash.

According to Live Traffic NSW, it reopened this morning.

Police want anyone with relevant dashcam vision of either vehicle, a 2023 model white Hyundai Ioniq travelling west and a silver Hyundai i20 travelling east, to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000.
