Teen charged after elderly women robbed in Wagga

Police have arrested a teenage boy over two alleged aggravated break and enters at homes in the state’s Riverina this week.

About 12:30 am yesterday (Tuesday 14 December), police have been told a male broke into a home on Dalman Parkway, Wagga Wagga, and entered an elderly woman’s bedroom.

It will be alleged the 84-year-old woman was sexually touched. She screamed and the male fled after allegedly taking her handbag.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District were notified and established a crime scene.

Shortly after, about 1:20 am, an unknown male entered a home on Elora Place, Glenfield Park, and allegedly stole a handbag, containing a purse, credit cards, cash and personal documents. It will be alleged in court that he also took car keys and a cup and saucer.

The resident – a woman aged 86 – awoke to find her home had been broken into and contacted police.

Police began an investigation into both incidents, which are believed to be linked.

Following inquiries, about 5:45 pm yesterday (Tuesday 14 December), police attended a home on Madang Street, Ashmont, and arrested a 17-year-old boy.

Officers seized credit cards – believed to have been stolen – as well as items of clothing relevant to the investigation.

The teen was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with two counts of break, enter and steal, and one count of sexual touching.

He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Wednesday 15 December).
