A “freak gust of wind” has caused a chair on a chairlift in Thredbo to plummet to the ground, with a skier in tow.

Around 3 pm on Monday afternoon (22 July), a skier was on the Gunbarrel chairlift when strong winds dislodged the chair, falling to the snow below.

The skier fell several metres, but only suffered minor bruising from the incident.

In a statement, a Thredbo spokesperson said it was an isolated incident caused by a freak gust of wind.

The guest involved in the incident sustained minor bruising only and no other guests or chairs were affected,” the spokesperson said.

“Thredbo is committed to the safety of our guests and our people.”

That’s nuts – how is this not reported more widely? I

It’s probably time for a check up on the aging snowfields infrastructure before there’s another Thredbo ‘disaster’.
