Introducing ‘Karingal’, a remarkable period home set on just over 2000 square metres of land in central Moss Vale.

Nestled between lush hedges and original stone retaining walls at 26 Elizabeth Street, this genuine 1927 Californian bungalow is like something out of a storybook. It offers three spacious bedrooms, two with bay windows, and a modern family bathroom.

The double-brick home has been carefully maintained over its lifetime. It features plenty of historic details, including original fireplaces, leadlight windows, hardwood floors, and floral details on 11-foot ceilings.

“I love the undeniable character of historic homes like this one. The high ceilings give every room grand proportions,” Gene Fairbanks from Ray White Bowral says.

“Little details really bring the property together, from the heritage light switches, door hardware, and window furniture to the varied pendant lighting throughout.

“I also love the views, which stretch north all the way to Mount Gibraltar.”

Guests are led down the wide entry hall into the main living room. The gorgeous corner fireplace is yet another original aspect. Next door is the sunny dining room, which leads to the kitchen through double sliding doors.

The kitchen has been thoughtfully renovated in the last five years. It sports integrated appliances, country-style cabinetry, and classic chequered floors.

All three bedrooms retain their original fireplaces with mantelpieces carefully preserved. The main bedroom features a huge walk-in wardrobe.

The family bathroom has also been renovated within the last five years. It’s complemented by a separate water closet adjacent to the full-size laundry.

Rounding out the home’s living space is an L-shaped sunroom overlooking the gardens beyond.

“These gardens are really impressive. Next to the sunroom is the original glasshouse. It’s practical yet beautiful, and in great condition,” Gene says.

“Everyone’s eyes are drawn to the meticulously shaped hedges. They serve as a natural privacy screen and border exotic plantings such as persimmon and hawthorn.”

A three-car garage and double-brick boundary fence complete the property’s gorgeous picture.

Moss Vale is a scenic country town less than two hours from both Sydney and Canberra. Families, professionals and retirees alike are drawn to the area’s vibrant food, arts and culture scene, boutique shopping, and heritage architecture.

Nature lovers will find the wetland sanctuary at Cecil Hoskins Nature Reserve teeming with native birdlife.

Wine fans need only duck up the road to discover Mount Ashby Estate’s cool-climate vineyard and cellar door, paired with a French-inspired café. And for the golfers, the historic 18-hole course at Moss Vale Golf Club offers an enjoyable challenge any day of the week.

“This home is in a great location within easy walking distance to the centre of town,” Gene says.

“It would suit a young family looking for space and style, someone who would love to entertain in that incredible garden, or a period home enthusiast keen to see the property reach its full potential.”
