Set on 145 fertile acres bordering the beautiful temperate forests of Monga National Park, Maquariedale presents the perfect blend of modern comforts and heritage character.

Located a short drive from Braidwood village at 106 Maher Lane, Reidsdale, this property was once a working dairy farm. It hosts a carefully renovated colonial-style home built in the 1870s, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a walk-in pantry and plenty of original features throughout.

Spotted gum floors, tray ceilings and a timber wrap-around verandah maintain old-school charm. They’re balanced by a bright, modern kitchen, double-glazed windows and LED downlights.

“Maquariedale is a very special place. You feel at home here right away,” says principal agent Ellie Merriman from Ray White Bungendore.

“The home is perfectly positioned to take in natural light all day long, with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and plenty of character features.

“I love imagining all the wonderful conversations had beside the living room fireplace – you just know some great stories were shared here.”

A few metres from the main residence is the fully self-contained studio. Thoughtfully converted from the homestead’s original milking barn, the space is sunny and warm, equipped with its own kitchenette and bathroom.

“This studio would make a wonderful guest room, teenager’s retreat or hobby space,” Ellie says.

“The cast-iron wood heater adds to its nice, cosy atmosphere. A mix of stone and weatherboard, iron roofing, tiled and painted concrete flooring, and beach blinds offers rustic appeal.”

Maquariedale was built for outdoorsy people. Nature enthusiasts will be thrilled by the cottage gardens, which attract plenty of pollinators and native birds.

Century-old fruit trees are a real standout, including apples, peaches and pears that once supplied cider to the whole community. Lavender hedges and pebble paths add a bit of whimsy.

“Being a former dairy farm, the surrounding pastures are top-quality,” Ellie says.

“They’re free from any nasty weeds or chemicals and incredibly fertile. The land offers great water security with several natural springs, four dams, an 80,000-litre rainwater tank and three extra poly tanks.”

Reidsdale is a peaceful rural locality about 10 minutes south of Braidwood. Set high on a ridgeline bordering Monga National Park, the area enjoys a unique microclimate with high rainfall, which lends itself to rich, fertile soils.

Local dairy farms and market gardens once fed local prospectors as they chased their fortune across Bells Creek, Majors Creek and Araluen goldfields.

While the gold rush has long since passed, this 145-acre estate is still a once-in-a-lifetime find.

“Maquariedale is an incredible example of rural character,” Ellie says.

“The property is a hobby farmer’s paradise, but also appeals to families looking to leave the suburbs, history buffs with a love for colonial-style homes, and professionals or creatives who want to work remotely surrounded by nature.

“No matter where you come from, there’s no denying the beauty and versatility of this stunning homestead.”
