A 56-year-old man has been accused of injuring an officer and leaving him with a large cut to the head while attempting to evade arrest.

A NSW Police spokesperson alleged that at about 10 pm on Wednesday (15 July), an officer attached to The Hume Police District attempted to stop the driver of a black Volkswagen sedan on Range Road at Mummel (about 20 kilometres north-west of Goulburn).

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, police began a pursuit.

Upon reaching a driveway in Pomeroy Mill Ford Road at Mummel, the driver allegedly exited the vehicle. Police claim he then threw a “plastic resealable bag” over the fence and into the property.

A short time later the man was arrested. While being led to the police vehicle, the man allegedly resisted arrest, leaving a male officer with a wound to his head.

“Whilst the officer was disorientated, the man allegedly retrieved the plastic resealable bag and went inside the property,” the spokesperson said.

“A short time later, additional police resources arrived at the scene, where medical aid was provided to the injured officer.”

Following their inquiries, police arrested a 56-year-old man inside the property and declared it a crime scene but did not locate the plastic resealable bag.

A search warrant was later carried out at the property, resulting in police allegedly seizing a number of drug-related exhibits.

The 56-year-old man was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital under police guard for treatment for soft tissue injuries he allegedly sustained during the initial arrest.

The injured officer was treated at the same hospital for the head wound, which required seven surgical staples.
