UPDATED: Police have confirmed that an inmate who escaped from a minimum-security correctional centre in the state’s Riverina region has been located and detained.

Inspector Josh Broadfoot from Tumut Police made the announcement just moments after the man was taken into custody on Monday, 9 May.

“We’ve arrested a man, in a Bourkelands address in Wagga Wagga and he’s at the moment headed back to Wagga Wagga the police station,” he said.

Marc Allen had been reported missing from the correctional centre in Tumbarumba on Friday, 6 May, where he had last been seen at the facility at about 2:45 pm.

The 33-year-old has distinctive tattoos of hands on his neck and was wearing a green prison track-suit at the time of his escape.

Inspector Broadfoot had few details of the escape but said that Mr Allen had been serving time for “domestic violence and some aggravated offence” and had several months left on his sentence.

He says the arrest follows a “resource intensive” operation across the weekend.

“Detectives from here in Tumut, with great assistance by the police in Wagga Wagga with the arrest, had been following up on inquiries,” he said.

“Great information come from the public and just some great detective work resulted in locating him at that address in Bourkelands today and it’s a great result for the community that he is back in custody.”

Marc Allen will be interviewed by police in Wagga Wagga with charges expected to be laid today.
