Police believe a woman spoke to an elderly man face-to-face before hitting him with her car then driving away in an alleged fatal hit-and-run on the NSW Far South Coast.

Trevor Fleet, a 73-year-old from the town of Eden, died after the incident last month and police have now launched a public appeal in an attempt to find his alleged killer.

“Trevor was a husband, a loving parent, a family member and a friend to many,” Detective Inspector Justin Marks said on Monday (28 September).

“What we’re looking at is a elderly male who was well respected in the community that has died unnecessarily and his death … is devastating to his family and loved ones.

“I’m hoping that the [alleged] offender has a conscience and I’m hoping that the [alleged] offender comes forward and … [is] given the opportunity to provide her version of events.”

He noted the trauma experienced by Mr Fleet’s long-term partner, who was a passenger in his vehicle when he was hit by the car.

“So she’s still struggling with that along with the rest of her family,” he said.

It is believed Mr Fleet was driving in Bega with his partner around midday on 31 August 2026 when he had an interaction with the female driver of another car.

Police allege the pair both stopped on Newtown Road, near the intersection with the Princes Highway, then got out and spoke to each other face-to-face.

It is alleged the woman got back into her vehicle and reversed, hitting Mr Fleet, before driving away around 12:16 pm.

Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken to hospital in a serious condition. Sadly, he died from his injuries on 1 September.

On Monday, Detective Marks said NSW Police had established Strike Force Delor to investigate the incident and were calling for help to identify the female driver, who they believe was alone in her car at the time.

Detective Marks said police believe the meeting between Mr Fleet and the woman wasn’t planned, but may have been related to some type of road rage incident.

He said whatever happened caused both to stop their cars before an altercation occurred.

“As a result of that altercation, the offender has returned to her vehicle and has reversed backwards, striking Mr Fleet,” he alleged.

Police have so far spoken to a number of witnesses who saw Mr Fleet and the woman together, have canvassed CCTV from the area and have received information from Crime Stoppers.

It is believed the driver was a Caucasian woman, about 30 to 40 years old and five-and-a-half feet tall with a solid build, round face and blonde hair.

She was possibly wearing navy blue work pants and a dark, long-sleeve jumper.

Police also believe she was driving a large silver SUV, possibly a Holden, with NSW black-and-white number plates and a bull bar.

Detective Marks said it was possible she was a member of the Bega Valley community.

“The [alleged] offender remains in the community and knows what has occurred. We are urging her to do the right thing and contact police,” he said.

“We are also appealing to anyone who may have spoken with her, seen relevant vehicles, or has information about her movements before or after the incident to come forward.”

Investigators believe other motorists driving past at the time may have witnessed Mr Fleet being hit.

“If you are one of these persons, I ask you to come forward and speak with detectives,” the detective said.

“No piece of information is too small and what may seem to you as being insignificant could prove vital to this investigation.”
