Nine things to do in the region this week (12 - 18 August)

There are plenty of things to do in the region this week, especially if you love live music, comedians, magicians, flora, markets and more.

Running across the whole weekend, there’s a three-day orchid exhibition in Merimbula, and on Friday an up-coming Canberra musician, Sean, is performing in Queanbeyan.

To kick off the weekend, on Saturday, there’s a comedy and magic show in Goulburn, Rufino and the Coconuts are bringing their tropical music to Braidwood and Tyler Hauptberger is coming to Tomakin.

There’s also a beginner’s yoga class in Batemans Bay, Thundergoose is performing in Bermagui and Ethan Parlato is bringing his country and blues music to Moruya.

To end the weekend, on Sunday, the Pambula Village Markets take place.

The Sapphire Coast Orchid Club’s Winter Show

When: Friday 12 August, Saturday 13 August, 9 am to 4 pm and Sunday, 9 am to 1 pm
Where: Twyford Hall, 16 Market Street, Merimbula
Cost: Free.

Taking place across three days from this Friday, is the Sapphire Coast Orchid Club’s Winter Show. Orchid enthusiasts are invited to come to this free event in Merimbula, where guest speakers will talk about their experiences with orchid cultivation and members will bring along their latest blooms. This showcase has three free shows running each year in Merimbula, Bega and Pambula, and is one not to be missed.

Cost: Free.

This Friday at the Top Pub Hotel, local Canberra musician Sean will take the stage and perform some of his favourite covers from his impressive and diverse repertoire of artists ranging from Elvis Presley, to Boyz II Men, to Chris Stapleton.

As someone who has been singing for as long as he could remember, and who in 2010 founded the Canberra-based band, the H-Cee Family, Sean is now in the early stages of writing and recording and aims to have his first solo release of music out by the end of 2022.

A Night Of Comedy & Magic with Keith Scott & Brendan Mon Tanner

This Saturday, the Goulburn Club will be holding an exclusive night dedicated to comedy and magic. The special guests include Australian-American voice actor, comedian, impressionist and animation historian Keith Scott, and one of Sydney’s most hilarious comic magicians, known as ‘The Hilarious Comic Trickster’- Brendan Mon Tanner.

With doors opening from 7:30 pm, people are encouraged to get in quick as this night is not to be missed and guaranteed to have you both amazed with Brendan’s magic and in stitches with Keith’s jokes and impersonation skills.

Rufino and the Coconuts are sailing into Braidwood this weekend to bring you the sounds of the Caribbean. With a blend of heart, soul and humour in their music, Rufino and his eight-piece band’s music will have you feeling transported to a tropical island.

Tyler Hauptberger @Smokey Dan’s

Cost: Free entry.

The multi-instrumentalist, music tutor and performer from Wollongong, Tyler Hauptberger is coming to Tomakin this Saturday for a special show. From midday, the artist who has played in several bands around Sydney and the Illawarra will be performing some of his own compositions, as well as covers that everyone loves.

The epic cover band from the Bega Valley, ThunderGoose is coming to Bermagui this weekend for a special concert. Come and enjoy 3.5 hours of non-stop covers of your favourite tunes, while enjoying a nice meal and some drinks with your family and friends.

Ethan Parlato is an independent singer-songwriter and natural-born storyteller from the South Coast. He is inspired by blues and country artists such as John Mayer, Keith Urban and Garth Brooks and loves to bring a personal touch to his original songs, telling stories of his life and those around him. Ethan has also played at many local venues such as the Tilba Valley Winery, Batemans Bay Soldiers Club and Moruya Waterfront.

Pambula Village Markets

When: Sunday 14 August, 8 am – 1 pm
Where: Pambula Oval, Narregol Street, Pambula
Cost: Free entry.

The Pambula Village Markets are held on the second Sunday of every month. Located on the sports oval in Pambula Village, you will find the best in local produce, including meats, fruits, vegetables, homemade ice cream, jams and pickles, as well as handmade clothing, jewellery and seedlings to grow your own plants.
