New, interactive way to have your say on Eurobodalla’s pathways

With the rising cost of fuel, pulling out the pushbike to get to work, school or the shops is looking like an even better option.

Eurobodalla Mayor Mathew Hatcher said more people were looking for ways to get around without a car, and the infrastructure to support that needed to keep up.

As part of that push, council is updating its pathways strategy and is asking for community input.

Mayor Hatcher said there was now a new, interactive way to comment on your favourite routes.

“There’s a survey and an interactive map where you can drop a pin on a pathway or route and leave a comment,” Cr Hatcher said.

“Please share your feedback on what’s working, what’s not and where the gaps are.

“If you’ve raised or lodged requests about pathways in recent years, don’t worry – they’ve been captured and will help inform the strategy.”

The current pathways strategy was adopted in 2017. Since then, Cr Hatcher said new neighbourhoods had emerged and more people were using e-bikes, scooters and mobility aids.

“While newer subdivisions include pathways from developers, older areas were not designed that way, creating gaps in connectivity,” he said.

“An updated strategy will help create a network that’s safe and accessible – connecting people to everyday destinations like shops, schools and community spaces.”

Eurobodalla has a network of more than 150 kilometres of pathways. Cr Hatcher said the updated strategy was key to unlocking additional funding.

“We are heavily reliant on state and federal government funding to build new pathways,” he said.

“Having this strategy means we can go after state and federal grants and deliver more of the pathways people are asking for.”

Visit council’s project page to give feedback online before 20 May or talk directly with council’s planning team and complete the survey in person at a pop-up session:

  • Batemans Bay – Clyde Street on Tuesday 28 April, 9 to 11:30 am
  • Moruya – near the swimming pool on Tuesday 28 April, 2:30 to 5 pm
  • Narooma – Rotary Park on Wednesday 29 April, 9 to 11:30 am.

If residents are unable to attend a pop-up session, complete the survey online or comment on the map, there will be another opportunity to provide feedback once the draft strategy is prepared.
