While Sydney stops for the annual Vivid Festival 303km south Moruya is gearing up for a light show of its own.
An innovative digital exhibition featuring local Aboriginal artworks will be projected onto the front of Eurobodalla Shire Council’s HQ every night during Reconciliation Week.
Aside from captivating local art, this Friday (May 25) night’s launch of the ‘Yuin Country: Art and Land Revealed’ exhibition will feature a meaningful candlelit march through town and warm fires to beat the autumn chill and bring about informal conversations.
Council’s Community Development Coordinator, Zoe Morgan says this special event is a partnership between Council and the Yuin community.
“We hope this exhibition is a catalyst for forging connections and transferring knowledge across the whole community,” Ms Morgan says.
“The projections created by digital artist Scott Baker will be highly public and visible and will reinforce the significance of the stories of connection to land.”

Warm fires and hot soup will keep patrons cosy as they view the images while taking in the music of Uncle Ronald Callaghan playing live in the forecourt of the Council Chambers.
The Eurobodalla Aboriginal Boys to Men group will start the night with a candlelit march to mark National Sorry Day, starting at 5 pm from the northern side of the Moruya Bridge and walking through town to Council’s Administration Building.
“It’s going to be a really beautiful way for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people to come together, reflect on the reconciliation journey so far, and express what it means to them,” Ms Morgan says.
The original artworks submitted for the digital light show will be on display in the Council Chambers, Council’s executive offices and Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma Libraries throughout Reconciliation Week – May 28 to June 2.
Libraries are open from 10 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday and 9:30 am to 12 pm Saturday.
Friday night’s official exhibition opening starts at 6 pm in the Council forecourt at the corner of Vulcan and Campbell Streets, Moruya, it’s free and the whole community is invited.
Free buses will be provided for elders travelling to the event from Batemans Bay and Wallaga Lake.
