The twilight hours of June 11 have been witness to the death of a man following a single vehicle crash in the Bega Valley.

Police report that at about 2.40 pm, a Mazda Tribute was travelling north on Bermagui-Tathra Road at Wapengo, when it left the road and collided with trees.

The driver and sole occupant, a 76-year-old man, was trapped in the car for a short time before being released and taken from the scene by road ambulance to Dickinson Oval to meet the Toll Air Ambulance.

Police say, “Despite medical efforts, the man died about 5.45 pm.”

Officers from South Coast Police District are investigating and have called on any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam vision to come forward.
