A man has been charged after 54 kg of cannabis leaf was allegedly seized during a vehicle stop on the Hume Highway in the Riverina this week.

At about 3:05 pm on Tuesday (14 April), police attached to Riverina Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle on the Hume Highway, Tumblong, about 15 km south-west of Gundagai.

The driver – a 30-year-old man – was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result.

Police will allege that a search of the vehicle uncovered five colourful large bags in the boot containing more than 54 kg of cannabis leaf. Officers also seized a mobile phone, which will undergo forensic examination.
