Sitting on the corner of Mossy Point overlooking the beach, 105 Annetts Parade is a landmark on the South Coast.

The historic beachfront cottage – affectionately dubbed ‘Araluen’ – is now on the market and it’s expected to fetch $2.7 million when it goes to auction next weekend.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home represents a perfect blend of old-world charm and clever modern updates. And as for that large, gently sloping block, the home takes full advantage of the 180-degree panoramic ocean views across the bay towards Broulee Island.

The first floor features three bedrooms, a shared bathroom, a modern and light kitchen with sunroom and daybed, stunning original hardwood flooring throughout, and a cosy living and dining area drinking in ocean views that are second to none.

Downstairs has been cleverly renovated to feature a large, open studio lounge and bedroom with a brand new, modern and stylish bathroom and laundry.

Araluen dates back to the 1950s but was originally built several blocks up the street by local artist Jean Whitham. The whole home was picked up and moved to its current 1346-square-metre position 10 years later, a mere 50 metres from the backyard to the stunning turquoise waters of the beloved Candlagan Creek.

The home was heavily renovated in 2014 and 2015 by local builder Tim Law, which saw the original dirt-floor garage and old barn doors completely revamped.

The owners were keen to ensure all renovations stayed true to the look and feel of the original home while introducing a modern, clean feel through polished concrete, tiling and paint colours.

They have loved the location and outlook of the home, but the current owners are now looking to downsize elsewhere.

“We love the look and feel of the house – the old charm now combined with a modern kitchen, bathroom and laundry,” they say.

“It is warm and inviting, and when you walk in the front door all the worries of the working week are left behind. And when you move through to the back of the house, suddenly you are met by a view so wide and so inviting that you can’t help but feel that you are home.”

For My Agent Christine Ewin real estate agent Megan Goucher, the view was the first thing that blew her off her feet when walking in for the first time.

“The moment you walk into the home or up onto the deck, it’s just there. And the scenery is ever-changing, depending on the tide.”

Megan describes the home as “overflowing with coastal charm and warmth”, and it’s a sentiment shared by everyone who has attended the inspections so far.

“People think it’s a very rare opportunity. Something like this isn’t available very often.”

There is more to the location than just the view. The owners have enjoyed the proximity to local eateries and parks.

“For the more adventurous, there are plenty of great walks to enjoy, including around the headland to the Mossy Point jetty for a coffee and cake, or a bit further on along the bank of the Tomaga River to the Mossy Point cafe – for another coffee and this time some lunch.”

The house was moved and is now just 50 metres from the water’s edge. Photo: My Agent Christine Ewin.

Pets don’t miss out either, with the owners describing it as a “very dog-friendly environment”.

“We love taking our two for long walks exploring headland and hinterland alike.”

This home will go to auction online at 3:30 pm on Saturday, 11 December.

I have lived in Mossy Point, on and off since 1941 from when it was Connell Point.
I rather thought that Dowlings house which is heritage listed was named Araleun.
The block on which this house stands had a house in the forties, built for Colonel Homes and resembles this house.
I was surprise to hear of the Whitlam connection as she was a great friend of my mum and painted scenes from her house overlooking Tomaga river.
But there you go………
