Googong tops the charts (to bring Delta Goodrem to town, that is)

There are calls from towns and cities all over the world, but Googong has recorded the most votes in the poll to secure a Delta Goodrem gig. Image: Leaflet/Screenshot.

She’s Australia’s Eurovision 2026 entry, but Delta Goodrem might be performing closer to home — if a community campaign has its way.

In a recent video posted to social media, Goodrem asked people to suggest locations where she should visit.

“New music means new shows, but I need to know where to go … You can look on the map and see where everybody is requesting for me to visit,” she says.

She’s opened a portal where people can vote for their favourite location for a gig, with suggestions coming in from around the world.

“[The place with the] most votes wins, and I’ll come visit you. Get voting, so I can come and see you, and we can have a great time singing the songs together in person.”

But one small town is punching well above its weight — Googong.

For Googong resident Vicki Sturgiss, the decision to add a vote for her town was easy. But it was when she shared the campaign on Facebook that it really took off.

“At 6 that night, which must have been when everyone got home from work, it just skyrocketed,” she said.

“I logged on after dinner and noticed that the number had gone up heaps.”

As of Monday morning (4 May), the southern NSW town has 1300-plus votes — over 1000 more than Melbourne, Amsterdam, Sydney and Greater London.

Those cities make up the top five.

Vicki says she would be “pretty stunned” if Goodrem decided to come to her town.

“It seems like she likes doing smaller venues, so I can’t see why she wouldn’t perform here,” she said.

“I just feel it’s a positive, welcome distraction from all the stressful things that are happening in the world right now. If we can focus a bit more on the positive stuff, it makes life a little bit less stressful.”

In her video, Goodrem didn’t say when the lucky winners would host her gig or when a decision would be announced.

But Vicki is hoping she’ll come to town for next year’s Googfest.

“I just thought it’s the perfect venue for her to visit,” she said of the event.

“It’s something from the community at Googong that is a free concert for the community. I like that people who might not be able to afford a ticket to see Delta would have the opportunity to see her at Googfest.”

While Vicki hasn’t heard anything from Goodrem (or her team) yet, she’s not disheartened.

“I would assume right now that they’re very, very busy because they’ve just headed over to Vienna for Eurovision. Their complete focus is on that.”

Goodrem’s campaign follows a similar call from fellow Aussie superstar Tones and I.

Earlier this year, she called for people to pitch their towns, with Batemans Bay and places scattered across the Riverina all putting their foot forward.

Wollongong was even picked to host the second gig of a five-concert run.

But will Googong be successful in bringing Goodrem to town? Only time will tell …
