Drivers can expect delays on Kings Highway when heading over Clyde Mountain pass from Tuesday 31 May, with additional tree removal work to be carried out.

Transport for NSW will be removing trees on the Mountain that have become unstable due to ongoing wet weather to ensure a safe route along the Highway.

Work will take place from 7 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday for four weeks from Tuesday 31 May, weather permitting.

Planned traffic changes include single lane closures and short intermittent closures of both lanes, with delays of up to five minutes during the movement of machinery.

Natural Disaster Recovery funded slope remediation work will also be carried out on the mountain during weekdays from 8 am to 4 pm under single lane closure until 30 June 2022, weather permitting.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when planning trips to and from Canberra and follow the signed speed limits and the direction of traffic control.

In early 2021 an arborist report identified about 400 high risk trees on Clyde Mountain, which were badly burnt during the Black Summer bushfires. Many have become significantly less stable due to storms and flooding.

Works will reduce the likelihood of unplanned closures and improve safety for motorists and workers by removing roadside hazards.
