Elderly woman allegedly kidnapped and thrown down an embankment

Police are looking for a barefoot man who allegedly kidnapped a 75-year-old woman and threw her down an embankment in the Snowy Mountains.

Police were called to the Snowy Mountains Highway at Talbingo at about 3:30 pm yesterday (2 February) after the alleged assault.

Riverina Police District officers, the NSW State Emergency Service and NSW Ambulance paramedics performed a vertical rescue to retrieve the elderly woman. She had suffered bruising to her face and deep cuts to her arms and legs, and was taken to Wagga Wagga Hospital for treatment.

Police have been told the woman was involved in an altercation with a man known to her, earlier in the day.

It’s alleged the man dragged the woman to his car, before driving along the Snowy Mountains Highway towards Talbingo mountain before forcing her out of the vehicle and down a four-metre embankment.

They are now appealing for information from anyone who may have seen a man in the area around the time of the incident. He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 50s, approximately 175 cm tall, of medium build with grey hair and blue eyes. He was barefoot at the time of the incident.

Investigations are continuing.
