Are you looking for fun (and free) things to do with the kids these winter school holidays?

Look no further than our eight top picks of school holiday activities and fun for everyone.

From Monday 4 July to Friday 15 July, there are new movies to see, arts and crafts workshops, exhibitions, science shows, animal encounters, sporting activities and more.

Running all holidays:

Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden

When: Every day of the school holidays, 9 am – 4 pm
Where: Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden, Deep Creek Dam Rd, Batemans Bay.

Situated on a 42-hectare forest site on the South Coast of New South Wales, the Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden promises wholesome, educational and free fun. The Garden features a wide variety of flora and fauna including 2000 different species of plants, trees and shrubs of the region. There are also kangaroos, wallabies, bandicoots, possums, echidnas, snakes, lizards, frogs and many birds.

In week one of the holidays:

The Science of Bubbles

When: Monday 4 July, 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm
Where: Yass Soldiers’ Memorial Hall, 82-94 Comur St, Yass.

Kids love bubbles – fact. The popular Poppy Bubble will deliver a fantastic science show at the Yass Soldier’s Memorial Hall, inviting kids to learn about the science world and make their own giant bubble wands after the show. Movie screening – Abominable (PG)

When: Tuesday 5 July, 2 pm – 3:30 pm
Where: Yass Valley Library, 88 Comur St, Yass

If you’re looking for a place to escape the cold and simultaneously entertain the kids, take them to the Yass Valley Library for an afternoon screening of the animated film Abominable. It tells the story of three friends embarking on a quest to reunite a lost Yeti with his family. Contact the library on 6226 1305 or via [email protected] to book, as places are limited.

PCYC – School Holiday Break

When: Wednesday 6 July, 10 am – 2 pm
Where: Riverbank Park, 15 Comur St, Yass.

School’s out, but that doesn’t mean our young’uns won’t need ways to expel their oodles of energy. Luckily kids and teens aged five to 18 are invited to play a variety of sports at Riverbank Park in Yass. Outdoor activities include ball sports, team games and tug-o-war. Lunch will be provided free and the day will be supported by Yass’ local police.

In week two of the holidays:

Crookwell Movie Night

When: Tuesday 12 July, from 6:30 pm
Where: Crookwell Memorial Hall.

To kick off week two of the school holidays the Crookwell Memorial Hall will host a special screening of Spider-man: No Way Home for children of all ages. No booking is required, just come along and enjoy. Popcorn, snacks and drinks will be available for purchase upon entry.

Arcade Games

When: Thursday 14 July, 10:30 am – 5 pm
Where: Crookwell Memorial Hall.

There’s nothing like a day of gaming to decompress after the school term. If your children are into arcade games, video games and spending their day with their mates, Crookwell Memorial Hall will provide a full day of just that, at no charge.

Making a Dream Catcher

Create a Dream Catcher

When: Thursday 14 July, 1:30 pm – 3 pm
Where: Crookwell Library, Denison St, Crookwell.

If you’re looking for a crafty way to relax and unwind these school holidays, bring the kids to the Crookwell Library for a day of making dream catchers. Your child will not only engage in a mindful activity but also take home the perfect accessory to hang by their bed.

Photo Necklace Workshop

When: Friday 15 July, 1:30 pm – 3 pm
Where: Yass Valley Library, 88 Comur St, Yass.

Come to the Yass Valley Library for an afternoon of necklace making and personalising it with your photo. Children aged 11 and up are welcome to join in on all the fun and get creative. To book, contact the library on 6226 1305 or via [email protected]
