A Karabar man will appear in court later this year after a joint NSW Police and ACT Policing investigation has allegedly uncovered a sophisticated hydroponic grow room in a shed.

In August 2021, officers from Monaro Police District, together with ACT Policing, established Strike Force Airtis to investigate the alleged cultivation and distribution of cannabis in the Queanbeyan area.

Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to Monaro Police District and Riverina Region Enforcement Squad executed a search warrant at a home on Pindari Crescent, Karabar, at about 9:00 am on Tuesday, 14 September, 2021.

During a search of the premises, officers allegedly uncovered a sophisticated hydroponic grow room in a shed, and seized 20 cannabis plants and almost 60 grams of cocaine, with a combined estimated potential street value of $97,000.

Officers also allegedly located confectionary infused with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station, where he was charged with cultivate prohibited plant and possess prohibited drug.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on Thursday, 11 November, 2021.

As part of the operation, ACT Policing Criminal Investigations also conducted a search warrant in the ACT suburb of Calwell to identify any cross-border connections in this investigation.
