Sad news out of the Snowy Mountains, with the region’s winter playground witness to the death of a South Australian man today – August 10.
Police report that at about 10.15 am, the 68-year-old was skiing with friends at Thredbo, when it’s believed he struck low-hanging tree branch. He was unable to be revived and died at the scene.
Police from Monaro Police District will examine all circumstances surrounding the man’s death and prepare a report for the Coroner.

Over 120 cms on snow has fallen at Thredbo since this week’s polar blast took hold with more forecast Sunday and into Monday.
Police are urging motorists to be cautious when driving as the blizzard conditions roll on:
- Leave the two-wheel-drive at home; four-wheel-drives are best suited for driving in snow and ice conditions;
- Check weather and road conditions/warnings before you leave;
- Carry chains with you and fitting them in slippery conditions in the designated bays.
