UPDATED – 4 August: One man has died following a car fire on the Kings Highway, west of Nelligen, near Batemans Bay on Monday (3 August).

Emergency crews from Batemans Bay Fire and Rescue and Batemans Bay police were called to the scene of the accident 5 km west of the Nelligen Bridge at 1:15 pm, after reports a car was on fire on the side of the road.

A NSW Police spokesperson has now confirmed that a 33-year-old man died after his car crashed and became engulfed with flames.

“On arrival at the scene of the accident, police found the sole occupant of the Mitsubishi Lancer deceased a short distance away from the car.

“Initial inquiries suggest the car left the road and collided with several trees, before catching alight,” the police spokesperson said.

Traffic on the Kings Highway was slowed while a crime scene was established and inquiries commenced by local detectives.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
